Barrel

Also known as: Tube. The metal tube through which the projectile travels after the cartridge is fired. In handguns, the rear portion contains the chamber where the unfired cartridge rests. The interior (bore) is typically rifled—featuring spiraled grooves—to impart spin on the bullet for gyroscopic stability in flight.
